Tour of the Battenkill Announces Wounded Warrior Project Initiative
Cambridge, NY USA –  Organizers of the annual Tour of the Battenkill cycling race scheduled for April 5-6 in Cambridge, NY announce a new fundraising program with the Wounded Warrior Project.  Founded after the events of 911 to provide comfort items to wounded service members returning from Iraq and Afghanistan, the Wounded Warrior Project's mission is "to raise awareness and enlist the public's aid for the needs of injured service members, to help injured service members aid and assist each other, and to provide unique, direct programs and services to meet the needs of injured service members."  Participants and volunteers will be able to fundraise for the Wounded Warrior Project on behalf of the event and partial proceeds of the event will benefit the Wounded Warriors Project directly.  Details of the new program can be found on the event website at

WWP 2The event, which returns for the 10th consecutive year in upstate New York's Washington County, also features active-duty and adaptive sport military categories in which participants will participate as guests of the weekend-long event and during Sunday's Open Race.          

"This is something we've wanted to do for some time and I am really happy it's come together for our 10th anniversary", remarked event director and founder Dieter Drake.  "We believe in supporting the folks who have made the greatest sacrifices overseas for us to have the freedom to have things like bicycle races here.  It's really important to us that we spread that message." 

Internationally known as America’s toughest road cycling race, the event continues to feature amateur races, a school outreach program, an event expo, kids races, professional races, and the open race division.  The Tour of the Battenkill continues its tradition as North America’s largest amateur cycling race.  Nearly 3,000 participants from 47 States and 20 countries competed in the 2013 event.

Battenkill_KrausGrafik.com_8926 2Beginning on Friday, April 4, the school outreach program will highlight the US Military and the US Military Elite Cycling Team which competes in the event each year and who will present to Cambridge School children their experiences as elite racers and military personnel.  

As in 2013, amateur and age group races fill the Saturday schedule, competing on the 65 mile course that travels thoughout the Battenkill Valley.
Kids races, juniors, masters, the Open Race, and professional men and women races are featured throughout the day on Sunday.

The start line returns to the center of Cambridge on Broad Street.  As in previous years, the finish is on Main Street at Varak Park.

Tour of the Battenkill Announces Gran Fondo

Cambridge, NY USA – The 9th Annual Tour of the Battenkill on April 13-14 in Cambridge, NY USA announces the addition of a gran fondo event to their weekend schedule.  The already popular age group and category races remain on both Saturday and Sunday, while the new gran fondo classification will take the place of the recently-eliminated professional men’s race on Sunday, April 14.   Participation in the gran fondo will be limited to the first 1,000 registrants and is open to the general public.

The new gran fondo event will travel on the same 65 mile / 105 km course known as ‘America’s Queen of the Classics’, considered the most difficult one-day race in North America.  Riders will compete on various timed segments of the course which includes 10 dirt road sections and challenging climbs.  Overall champions in various age-group categories will be crowned and awarded prizes at the end of the event.

The Tour of the Battenkill is America’s largest one-day, classic-style road race with more than 3000 amateur racers from 40 States and 15 countries in 2012.  The event is stop #1 on the Stan’s Notubes Great American Cycling Series with 9 other major Northeast US events.
