Floyd's of Leadville Announced as Presenting Sponsor

December 24, 2016

Greenwich, NY – The Tour of the Battenkill announces Floyd's of Leadville as
Presenting Sponsor for the Saturday, May 20 event in Upstate New York. The Colorado-based company, founded in 2016, will soon launch energy & wellness products, nationally, in health food stores and bicycle retailers. The new Floyd's of Leadville energy and wellness products will contain internationally-sourced Cannabidiol, or CBD. Classified as a dietary supplement by the Food and Drug Administration, CBD oil and CBD oil products are available in all 50 states.

CBD has been shown through pre-clinical studies to have therapeutic benefits in the treatment of various conditions, including chronic pain, epilepsy, nausea, rheumatoid arthritis, schizophrenia, diabetes, PTSD, alcoholism, strokes and cardiovascular disease, cancer, and other ailments, disorders, and diseases.

Former professional cyclists and Floyd's of Leadville executives Floyd CBD Cream-01-01 Landis and Dave Zabriskie will also take part in the event.  Floyd's of Leadville CEO Landis finished second in the 2010 edition near the end of his professional career which included professional wins both in the USA and internationally.  Marketing Manager Zabriskie is a 7-time National Time Trial Champion and 3-time World Time Trial Championship medal winner.  Landis and Zabriskie were teammates for much of their professional careers.

Landis likes this opportunity to return to the event to promote his new line of wellness products.

"Battenkill was one of my last races as a pro and it'll be special to come back in support of the event and our new products.  Wellness is something that I've personally focused on since retiring and it's something we believe in very strongly as a company.  Events like Battenkill are consistent with that," commented Landis.

The new, CBD-only products will be available by event day and are not bound by federal restrictions like other cannabis products containing THC, limiting them to states like Colorado where they are legal.

"We're excited to offer these new products across the USA this coming spring," said Landis. "The recovery benefits of CBD supplements to athletes are obvious now."

Zabriskie recently competed in the Leadville (CO) 100 Mountain Bike race and likes the comparison with the two events.

"Battenkill has such a great history and I am finally able to race it.  The new mass-start format for the Pro/Am is really interesting. I've raced Leadville and they have a mass-start every year.  Everyone lines up all at once and races on the same course together.  It makes sense for the sport," said Zabriskie.

The Tour of the Battenkill returns to the Washington County Fairgrounds for the 3rd year in 2017.  The one-day, 75 mile Tour includes a Pro/Am competitive event, a non-competitive Open, a 26 mile Tour for Pink breast cancer awareness benefit ride, a benefit division in memory of New York State Trooper Timothy Pratt, and an outdoor expo at the Fairgrounds that includes local and regional exhibitors, kids races, a kids play area, sponsors, and food & beverage vendors.

2016 Tour of the Battenkill - UPDATE

Hello from Great American Cycling and the 12th Annual Tour of the Battenkill,

We are gearing up quickly for the 2016 season and are proud to announce the return of ‘America’s Queen of the Classics’  – the Tour of the Battenkill on Saturday, May 21, 2016 in Greenwich, NY.

Changes for 2016:

  • We’re going to a single day for the event in 2016 for both the Pro/Am and grand fondo on Saturday, May 21.  The full race schedule will be published soon.

  • ***  3 REGISTRATION PERIODS & FEES  ***
    • November 15-25 @  $95
    • January 15-25 @  $110
    • March 15 – May 14 @ $125
    • Registration will be closed for all fields in between these periods.

  • While our registration fee remains the same since 2013, the changing demographics in cycling and the upward pressure on event costs has led us to move away from the national governing body for 2016 in an effort to reduce costs and to broaden the audience for our event and for the sport of cycling.  This will allow us more freedom with field sizes and event staffing to streamline costs toward important elements like safety and rider experience.  It will also allow us to sustain the event for future editionsNevertheless, the race will be virtually identical to previous editions, with hired race officials, support vehicles, moto marshals and officials, full police and course marshal support, friendly & professional staff, and the Battenkill Valley hospitality & scenery familiar to all who have raced the Tour of the Battenkill in the past 12 years.  All of the traditional rules common and expected in the sport will still be enforced by race officials (yellow line rule, etc.). Also, no one-day license fees and no annual licenses are required.

  • Reduced number of fields for the Category 5 Men to just one per age group

  • Men Category 4 will have just 2 fields: under 40 and 40+

  • Pro/1 Men and Pro/1/2 Women are by invitation only.  Interested teams  should contact us for details.

  • Swag bags and event tees for all racers registering by May 1, 2016

The course for 2016 is the same as in 2015: 68 miles, 7 dirt road sections, and 4000 ft of climbing.  As in 2015, the start and finish is at the Washington County Fairgrounds; bathrooms, showers, ample & convenient parking, easier access to the interstate, and on-site camping are all available once again. By all accounts, the Fairgrounds worked very well in 2015.

Online registration for Pro/Am Reg Period 1 opens November 15 at 7 PM EST.

REGISTER HERE.

Thanks,

Vittoria Tires to Support the Tour of the Battenkill

March 19, 2014

Cambridge, NY –  Vittoria Industries of Boston, Massachussets has joined the 2014 Tour of the Battenkill as the Official Tire Sponsor.  Vittoria will provide neutral race support through the famed Servizio Corse during the weekend. This is the same Servizio Corse that the racers depend on in such famed races as Milano-San Remo, Strade Bianche, and the Giro d’Italia.

“We are privileged and excited about the upcoming race, and being the Official Tire of the Tour of the Battenkill fits perfectly with what we

are about - taking yourself to the next level,” says Vittoria Road Marketing Manager, John McKone. “Vittoria has been involved with the most difficult and inspiring racing events in the world, winning more Paris-Roubaix than any other tire brand. We now are becoming part of the history of the Battenkill event, which our Pavé tire is the perfect tool to challenge the conditions of the course.”

Scheduled for April 5-6, the 10th Annual Tour of the Battenkill, presented by Visit Flanders and Eddy Merckx Bicycles, is North America’s largest Pro/Am road cycling race with more than 3,000 participants from 45 states and 15 countries in 2013.  Styled after spring classics like the century-old Tour of Flanders, the Tour of the Battenkill features several dirt road sections and challenging climbs. Starting and finishing in the small village of Cambridge, NY, category racers and Open Race gran fondo participants will compete on a 65 mile course through the scenic Washington County, NY countryside.

Former Professional Scott Nydam to be Featured at the Tour of the Battenkill

March 12, 2014

Cambridge, NY – Former US professional Scott Nydam will participate in the Tour of the Battenkill to highlight the 10th Anniversary of the event on April 5-6 in Cambridge, NY USA.

Nydam, winner of the Mountains Classification at the 2008 Tour of California, won the 2009 Tour of the Battenkill Professional Invitational on a solo break from the early stages of the 200 km course. Nydam will participate in the Tour of the Battenkill Open Race on Sunday April 6.

Nydam, of Gallup, New Mexico is excited to get back to the Battenkill Valley in Upstate New York and the scene of one his last races as a professional before retiring in 2010.

"Some of my best and challenging moments on bike took place at Battenkill.  Few races in North America offer these kinds of roads and a sense of what it's like to race in Europe.  I have been wanting to get back ever since."
